FREE Essex Business Support Workshops

On behalf of the South East Business Boost Programme, we are delighted to be offering a series of fully funded workshops to help you improve business performance.

Workshops from our enthusiastic experts have helped fledgling and established businesses overcome stumbling blocks common to many businesses. This training is free of charge to eligible SMEs*.

All workshops are run over 2 consecutive days, focus on practical exercises and aim to leave you with implementable plans to take your business to the next level. You don’t need to attend both days, just let us know when you register.

How to Set Up a New Business

How to set up all key elements of a new business, including financing options, market research, getting sales and writing a business plan.

Driving More Sales With Your Website

Gain a practical understanding of  how to build or improve your website and create or improve your e-commerce capability.

Increasing Sales Through Smart Marketing

Covering market research, branding, PR and communication, the customer journey, digital marketing and other key marketing tools and techniques.

Setting Up a Social Enterprise

How to set up a social enterprise, incl. the legal structures available, suitable financial practices and the social enterprise marketplace, along with the knowledge of how to measure and value social impact.

Improving Your Profits Through Effective IT

Helping you to understand the basic IT skills needed in businesses, including creating invoices & managing accounts, creating or utilising CRM systems & mailing platforms, managing stock & business processes.

HR Practices

Day 1 focuses on recruitment, induction and performance; Day 2 gives you the confidence to deal with managing absence, discipline and leave.

Project Management

Taking you through key project management tools and techniques and how to use them to improve performance in your business.

Creating a New Service or Product

You will learn how to make your new idea attractive to customers, define your target customers, protect your Intellectual Property and ensure all resources are in place to successfully launch your new product.

Improving the Financial Performance of Your Business

Day 1 gives an overview of the financial flows in a business, including understanding income and expenditure accounts and creating a Profit and Loss account.

Day 2 will help you to understand financial risks & opportunities and learn how to use financial forecasting, essential for securing grants and other finance.

Digital Marketing

All the information you need to generate a successful Digital Marketing campaign to improve the performance of your business.

These workshops are being run by First Ascent Ltd and Enterprise Support Alliance Ltd on behalf of the South East Business Boost programme and are free of charge to eligible businesses and individuals.

If you are unable to attend both days, or would like to attend one day only, please contact us and we can arrange this for you.

The South East Business Boost Programme has been part funded by the European Regional Development Fund 2014-20. It is a partnership between Southend-on-Sea Borough Council, Essex County Council, Kent County Council, East Sussex County Council and Thurrock Council.

*Eligibility criteria for businesses / individuals:
Businesses must be based in the Essex Local Authority area, employ fewer than 250 people, have an annual turnover under €50M, a balance sheet less than €43M and have received less than €200K total state aid received over the past three years  Businesses should not be operating / intending to operate within the following restricted sectors:-
Fishery and aquaculture sectors; Primary production, processing and marketing of agricultural products; The coal, steel and shipbuilding sectors; the synthetic fibres sector; Generalised education establishments; Banking and insurance companies; Charities and voluntary sector organisations, that are not using a trading arm; Membership organisations that are politically affiliated.

All workshops are FREE to attend but you do need to book to reserve your place. Lunch and refreshments will be provided.
